TAMPA, Fla., March 15, 2013 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In honor of Outback Steakhouse's 25th anniversary, Tampa mayor, Bob Buckhorn, has declared that today is "Outback Steakhouse Day".

In his proclamation the Mayor noted that Outback Steakhouse has been strongly committed to improving quality of life the communities in which its restaurants and employees live. It goes on to describe Outback's relaxed, friendly and fun atmosphere and praised it for its quality food, outstanding service and as a restaurant that genuinely cares about its guests. Additionally, he acknowledged the company for its work with Operation Homefront and as the title sponsor of the Outback Bowl which has been held in Tampa since 1995.

"We have always valued being a part of such a great community here in Tampa," said Jeff Smith, President of Outback Steakhouse. "In 25 years of business, we've been all around the world, but it's always a pleasure to come back home and we're so grateful for the support of our city."

The official proclamation caps off a week full of anniversary celebrations. On Tuesday afternoon, all four of the restaurant's founders, Chris Sullivan, Bob Basham, Tim Gannon and Trudy Cooper, were at the original Henderson Blvd. location to celebrate the success of the restaurant that started it all. In a nod to their signature Aussie-hospitality, the founders served all guests surprise rounds of drinks, appetizers and desserts. The highlight of Tuesday's celebration was the unveiling of an historical building marker recognizing the Henderson restaurant as the very first Outback Steakhouse location.
